Does anyone have experience of the high hopper type shredders from Viking?

sorry, I've not come across these yet. Is it electric? if so, they're all much of a muchness.

There are electric and petrol versions. The feed hopper is quite high so you cannot get your hands near the blades and as a consequence the opening is large and not restricted as most are. So should intheorey quickly deal with large quantities of hedge clippings - seeking experiences to confirm this

As regards hedge clippings, I have had rather a lot of experience with these.
Haven't found a shredder yet, electric petrol or diesel, in any size, domestic or comercial, that will deal with them.
It just clogs them up.
I think you're looking for the holy grail!!!! :D

I read up on a trial that KG mag did and they liked the electric Bosch heavy duty shredder.

So I got one off ebay for £50 cos the guy had used it for one job then wanted to offload it  :D   I've used it loads of times and get on fine with it but the collecting bag is not much cop so I put a placcy trug bin thing under it.  It does get jammed if you try and cram too much in it but there's a reverse on them

I have lots of ivy and shrubs to deal with so it's been a good buy for me and then you can either make chippings for lotty paths or compost the greener shreddings

I agree the Bosch is very effective on branches and anything with rigid stem and brilliant on tangles of brambles - just sucks them in and spits them out. I've had one for 7years

But its hopeless on soft material like hedge clippings. It can chop them up but the feed hopper is so small it takes longer to shred the hedge than cut the hedge.

And lifes too short when you've a lot of hedge.

So the search for the holy grail must go on
