I have some family tools. i.e Spade, Fork, Hoe etc which have not been sharpen for many years maybe never and wanted to know how do i get them sharpen.

I've always just used a stone, you know the ones for sharpening knives

I got a bench grinder for stuff like this, also have whet stones oil stones and diamond stones and files for chisels and knives.

Files might be ok to sharpen a fork tine and a spade end as they dont need to be razor sharp, im working on this right now and hoping to get it right soon the knife i use was given to me that sharp it would take the hair of your arm geshh it was sharp.

A large coarse file is the tool for the job , portable and far faster than a stone.

I'm with Shaun, digging keeps my spade and fork sharp.
 Older, worn-in tools are so much easier to use because of this - last time I had a new spade it seemed so numb and blunt.
