Hi,
What is the best thing for sharpening hoes, spades etc ?
Would a shepherds steel be ok or do I need something meatier?

I have no idea what a shepards stone is. I have never in 25 years+ needed to sharpen any thing but clippers and cylinder mowers.

I think it might be one of those cigar shaped carborundum stones, which would be ok for doing most things ( if you have the time) MIND YOUR FINGERS!!!

does anyone know where to find one of these cigar shapped sharpening tools - have done several searches and can't find one. Ideally want something to keep on the plot (no drill attachments) to sharpen up my hoe. Any ideas welcome.
