Outdoor tomatoes

I have always left my Toms in the greenhouse for there growing life. This year I have so many different types, that I will be planting in the allotment. As I have never put them outside, I was wondering if there is anything I should be watching out for and are outdoor grown Toms any better than greenhouse grown?

Flavour is pretty much the variety and how you've fed it rather than inside or outside. For outside growth, you'll need to watch for bugs that will munch leaves and flowers. Water from below rather than above to avoid sun burn spotting as water droplets dry. And listen for any talk of blight.

We grow all our toms outside due to our warmer summer here.

Don't get them rained on too much once they've set fruit as the tomatoes rot then (brown spots that will slowly turn the whole thing into mush).

In Germany you can by houses for Tomatoes which basically provide a roof to prevent rain damage. I put plastic over them last year and it worked ok.

My first year outside they grew the best ever I've seen but either succumbed to the rain or never turned red (no matter what I've done). Ended up with 10 pounds of green tomatoes and still have some chutney left

I lost all my out door tomatoes to blight or I rather think it was some kind of brown stem rod last year due to the wet weather.  I have a dozen out door toms this year so I have my fingers and the Bordeaux mixture ready  :!:

I didn't know they were fussy about the rain!

I can just see mine lined up beneath a smoking shelter style contraption!
