i am going to make a cold frame is it best to make the side in timer or frame and glass cheers :lol:

Most traditional designs are in timber but I bodged mine with some plastic sheeting, on the basis that the more light the better - so if you've got glass or plastic I'd use it.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

timber this cuts out the real cold hitting the glass and transferring straight to the plants . heat rises cold settles  :wink:  just because they call it a cold frame it doesnt have to be that cold . what it does is acclimatise the plants to being outside in controlled enviroment ,if its warm the glass is lifted to allow air to circulate  if frost threatens then it will keep them protected

Hi there.  I have been collecting these things lately. they are stackable pallet type cover things, dont know the correct term.

but being stackable means more can be added as stuff gains height in them. a simple covering of polythene on top or even make a frame up to fit in will work as a 'roof'. they are about 4 foot by 3 foot. have a look around industrial estates or railway depots  :shock:
