Mustard advice

Hi all  I live Yorkshire I get to do abit of digging over next few days I know I’m pushing it but what’s everyone opinion on getting I last sowing of mustard in I know frost will kill it but just trying to get a bit more organic matter in think I’m wasting my time thanks all

Down here, I've still got a couple of weeks to get mine sown, but not sure where you are - because you are right, the first hard frost will kill it.

Probably not worth it .if I top it with some not fully rotten manure do you reckon it’ll be ok by April don’t want to leave ground uncovered thanks

Carnt plant rye potatoes going in bed next year as it stands it’s got old straw dug in and in rough clods don’t want to put field beans in had broad beans and peas in bed this year nightmare lol

Legumes (beans, peas) are less bound by crop rotation issues, so if that's your only reason for not using field beans, I wouldn't worry too much
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I'm not too sure about semi fresh manure and whether it's best left in a pile to rot down first

I dig the mustard when if first flowers before it goes to but you can dig in anytime before it goes to seed I pull it then chop it with the spade then dig it in leave a month after before planting

It will be killed by a -5c frost. When I've used it I sow it in September then it won't flower until the following year, so it should die over winter. No cutting or chopping needed, if there are still stalks etc in spring you can rake them off. Or just not bother. Unless it's that one you grow for suppressing nematodes, you might need to dig that in?

I'm pleased  i didn't sow it last year as the coldest frost we had was -3c so most of it would have survived
