Lardman: I've hastily rearranged cover just in case, although it's only forecast 25mph here, that's enough.
Thank goodness you realised in time, not that I'm ill-wishing you

At least the windows will dry rapidly
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

The rubbish bins are doing a group waltz up and down the road.

I had to drive a few miles to the next village, Ticehurst, first thing this morning, as I need some new tyres! I rang them up at 8.00am and they said if I left hoke then, they'd 'crack on with the job' immediately!

When I got there, the car went straight up on the ramp, and to make the issue more pleasant, they came back to tell me that I only needed two tyres - not three as envisaged, so I was well pleased at that! And the job was finished when they said it would be!

Then on to our local GC to buy some hyacinth bulbs, with the lovely lady there advising me to buy a separate lot and saving me another few quid! And I met a chum in there who told us that she'd just won £825.00 on the Premium Bonds!

So all in all, not a bad start to the day...;0)

Growster, what's a left hoke?? Is it a local term for something or have you been on the jolly juice again?!  :tongue2:
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Goosey, a 'left hoke' is a quaint anachronism, harking back to the sixteenth century, when dictionaries hadn't been written and ladies were ladies and tiresome blokes had better learn or get biffed - usually with a scented pair of gloves, you understand!

A 'hoke' is sometimes referred to as Kentish rhyming slang for a 'joke', but with a mouthful of whatever is on the pub table at that particular time! It's thought that the origins of the silly dance, the 'Hokey Kokey' came from similar conversations, as who can pop in - out, in - out,  with a dribbling mouthful of Shepherd Neame Beer, and a half-eaten Kentish Ham Salad roll!

When I've exhausted all my research, I may well come up with some other descriptions of the great Kentish Hoke, but supper-time is on us I'm afraid..;0)
