blueberries direct in soil?
« on: September 20, 2013, 22:58 »
In my new garden the borders are covered in conifers, pine and rhododendrons which I plan to lift, could I plant blueberries direct in the soil or will it need to enriched with ericaceous compost?

Thanks

The rhododendrons will make the soil acid enough themselves  :)
I cook therefore I grow

If the rhodies are happy I should think the blueberries would be.  Conifer needles will acidify the soil.  But you could always do a pH test just to be sure.

I'd agree with diospyros - do a pH test. I have a conifer hedge and it makes no difference to my soil maybe because it is heavy clay?
