Would net curtains be any good as cloches?

Just wondered about trawling charity shops/ asking elderly relatives for some!

I think I've previously read on this site that they're ok as fleece to keep a degree or two of frost off, but are generally not sufficient to keep small insects like carrot root fly off?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I've got a very fine mesh net curtain which I'm intending to use as a row cover, though it wouldn't be any good for frost protection.

Organic...so far!

From experience voile type net curtains are good for keeping bugs off ....the more lacy types are not much good for anything as far as i can see.  Wouldnt think they would give much frost protection either, especially not with the frosts we have at the moment

what a good thought!  mum's just taken one down recently in the spare room as the window sill was getting damp and  both sill and curtain were going mouldy

i hope she hasn't chucked it yet...

Yay, not gone yet!

Voile, that's that word I was looking for, thanks MOS! Mine are most definitely NOT lacy net curtains - that would be far too girly for me!
