Title: Low Energy Lighting
Post by: amandaandherveg on January 02, 2009, 19:47
Hopefully building will start soon on our new house.  Our present home (which we renovated in 2007) has recessed halogen lighting but I am super keen to use low energy lighting that will be cheaper to run and better for the environment.

Anyone have any good sites and ideas they would like to share?  Quite a bit of the house will be open plan, and although I love the halogen downlighters we have at the moment our electricity consumption is way too high.

saw some halogen-stype spotlights in homebase yesterday which had LED bulbs instead - would they do the trick?

One advantage of DC lighting is that you can do the installation yourself if you feel able. :)

And of course, it lends itself to renewable energy sources. Solar, wind, etc can all be used if you want.

Well done for your ethos. Good luck. :D
