Has anyone any experience of lawn edging strips? I'm looking for something fairly invisible and very neat, that doesn't cost a fortune. The lawn is not perfectly flat so they will have to cope with subtle vertical undulations as well as following a curved lawn-edge (which I presume rules out something that is really stiff).

Avoid the plastic ones.  They get brittle and snap / disintegrate over time.

Agree with Yorkie!

I used some of the green plastic stuff to define some oval areas in a flower border and it went brittle within 2 years. 

I have seen a metal version of the same stuff which would no doubt last much longer; not done extensive research but if you search for "metal lawn edging" on Amazon you will find several variations including a Gardman version for about £15 for 5 metres including postage, although it does have a rather bright galvanised finish (there are other types!)

The only plastic one that i would recommend is the one that you use to edge block paving. It can be formed into various shapes and is fixed by long plastic nails.
