planting tomatoes
« on: May 06, 2020, 10:44 »
Well the weather is fine and my tomatoes are ready so I am starting planting today. I have prep'd a bed 7m x 4m and want ot get three rows of toms and some aubergine and peppers in that space. However during the course of seeing whether I could get them in there I discovered that tomatoes, unlike a lot of other plants, can be grown in the same spot year on year without problem?? Which is nice because that means that this bed will become my tomato patch

Andy, did you use your old worn-out thermals or was it some sheep's wool from the local farmer?  :tongue2:
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

The forecast for my area over the next is good min about 10-14C and max 20-25C so I am going for it as usually  the weather improves as we get nearer to June.

Our 'Shirley' toms were not that good at germinating this year for some reason, so I sowed some more, and they've all come up with a vengeance!

The main lot are in their places, and I'm now wracking my brains for the last thirteen plants...

(Just realised, if they all go in, we all know a song about 'When I'm sixty-four', don't we:0~

Might give some away around here...

I have taken a flyer and planted out about 40% of my toms ( Black Russian and ferline). Holding the others back for a couple of weeks  in case the cold snap on Sunday is nastier than predicted.
