Can anyone identify the problem with my Grapevines?
« on: September 17, 2013, 17:13 »
Had these funny brown marks & patterns on my leaves for a while now. They don't get worse but don't get better either. Any help appreciated.

That looks like blistering and damage done by environmental factors to me, rather than anything nasty.  It looks like your vines are inside a polytunnel.  It may be scorch from too much heat or sun.

The vines will be dropping their leaves soon anyway, so I would just leave them alone for now  :)

On all the vines it only seems to be the lower leaves that are affected.  Seen a few pics of leaf roll virus and the symptoms look quite similar. Hope it's not that though as they say there's no cure and you've got to cut down your vines.

It could indeed be one of the mildews, the commonest diseases of vines. Downy mildew can be easily told from other damage as New Shoot describes by putting a couple of affected leaves in a plastic bag moist, like covered with moistened kitchen towel or such. Within a short time white fungus like substance shall develop, if it's mildew.

Like a day or two.

I mean the red ones, the rustier looking one, like in first picture - if it were this disease - are past their life cycle.

I agree 100% with Amilo the leaves have come to the end of there life they will all slowly turn colour and drop, is that Pinot Noir by any chance? Enjoy the various colours before they drop.

Pics were just taken 3-4 days ago. The problem leaves have been on the lower leaves of my largest vine for about 2 months but didn't start to show up on the other smaller vines until much later. I have 2 black hamburgh, 2 Boskoop glory and 1 fosters seedling.

Your vine seem to behaving the same as mine, so long as the fruits are not affected I don't think you have a problem, if you want, strip off the affected leaves for a cosmetic appearance.
