We are thinking of getting the mother inlaw a small slow cooker (theres one in Lakeland just the right size).  I was wondering if she will use the excuse that she could just put a casserole in the oven and doesn't need it, then she will give it away to the family sponger like every other present.  So what can we go armed with to tell her its better than in the oven.

Well you could her it will you spending so much gas, can just leave the house with it off come back eight hours to hot lovely smelling food!

Don't know what i ever did before i started using my slow cooker, seems to just be so much easier that standing by a  cooker all day waiting for it to cook.

No idea buts its bound to be better than a gas oven. What can say i'm still gonna use mine!
I freeze half of everything i cook in it, makes tons while on an oven it would dry out.

Answers a on a postcard.......

I will dig mty book out to confirm but I pretty sure it uses less electric than the average lightbulb over the same time period...

And did a google search and found this

www.dooyoo.co.uk/small-kitchen-electrical/prima-slow-cooker/318636/

which says it costs 12p for 10 hours....

Course the best place to check is money saving expert....

But even if it was not cheaper... you cannot beat it... its worth every penny!!!
Its my first year....  an I am loving it!

Forget the mother in law I want one now.  I'd have to get a big one though as OH eats three people size dinners.

I got a big one from Argos and it was £25 the cheapest I've seen.  It was in the sale but a quick check on their website says it is still at £24.99.

Well lovely people, I hunted out my slow cooker and today I bunged in some strewing steak, onions, carrots and of course PARSNIP :wink:water salt ,pepper, splash of Worcester Sauce...

Just waiting for hubby to get home, but I've just tasted it and it's gawj...

Just boiling some Rooster 'tatoes to go with it..mmmm

I'm convinced it tastes better than cooking on the hob..

( next year I'm hoping I'll be using my own veggies and not shop bought  )

i have a good recipe for butternut squash curry. the peppers in it really benefit from slow cooking; they go lovely and soft and it seems to enhance the pepperyness. the butternut is great in the creamy sauce.

1 large butternut
2 onions
3 large peppers (red if possible)
can coconut milk
bunch of coriander
5 cloves garlic (i do like my garlic  )
heaped dsp curry powder
dsp bouillon powder

chop everything up, chuck it all in and bubble away slowly all day.
