« on: September 05, 2014, 08:30 »
I have 1.7 kg of tomatoes to skin for a recipe ( cherry tomatoes) what is the quickest way of doing this
some people are like slinkys......they're really good for nothing, but they still bring a smile to your face as you push them down the stairs!!

Cover them in a bowl with boiling water for a minute, skins should split.  Drain and then when they have cooled a bit should be easy to peel

The other day I put some of my tomatoes in the microwave covered up for several minutes, then waited for them to cool a bit before skinning.  Cherry toms are awkward to skin the traditional way aren't they?

Or roasted for a while, but that takes longer.

Depending on the recipe, if the toms are going to be blitzed, I leave the skins on and blitz the lot!

I have done a good few this year, but I have a pan of boiling water, stab each tom to break the skin, drop them into the water for about 30 seconds then into a bowl of cool water so they don't cook and go mushy and they are easier to handle after a minute or so. Worked for me and if you have a lot like you do it's quick.

Or you could forget about skinning them and chew them up in a kitchen zizzer, more roughage.

Cheers,   Tony.
