Am trying the variety Zebrune this year from seed. It is a Bananna type long shallot. Does anyone have any experience in growing them from seed before?

 Made two sowings. One mid feb in the heated greenhouse and one in early march in the cold greenhouse. All in modules. The earlier heated plants are obviously ahead of the others but seem a little thin. Is this normal?
All my onions from seed are bolt upright and thickening up whereas the shallots are tall and spindly.

Interested to see if anyone else is trying them this season and how there getting on.

I've got Banana shallots and Camelot this year.  Sowed the Camelot yesterday, but the Banana ones say sow direct, so going to wait a week or two for the soil to warm.

Last year I grew Matador in modules, started in a cold greenhouse before planting out.  They were slow to get going and I remember them being spindly weedy looking things to start.  They did make a decent crop in the end though 

My second year growing onions from seed and mine are upright(ish) and slowly thickening out, but yours sound better than mine
