Weeeell, never heard of this but I presume the filling will soak into the bread so will leave a strange texture. The only way you could get a crisp base I'm thinking is to roll the bread and slather it in butter to make it less permeable, which defeats the object. But I'm sure someone will know better.

I often make a tortilla/frittata type thing using sliced cooked potatoes for a base to make it a complete meal and this slices well and is good warm or cold.

I often make WW quiches which are essentially a normal mixture (but use lower far cheese/skimmed milk etc) and the pastry is a tortilla wrap! I was surprised at how wellie it worked

Thanks

I think ill have to have a go. The case could have an egg wash to stop it soaking in like pastry. Lots of veg eggs and just tiny strong cheese on top. Individual ones could be frozen too.

I just cook mine in a good non-stick pan without any crust, but as tosca says they are thick with potato and onion and other veggies so quite thick.

In a non stick pan it works well though  :)

Lots of ideas for alternative flan crusts here
http://www.ellenskitchen.com/recipebox/crustalt.html

This one sounds ideal
Quote
Bread or Cracker Crumb Crust

Dry toasted breadcrumbs or cracker crumbs (about 2 1/2 cups for 9" crust and topping)
Soft butter or soy margarine

For a crumb crust quiche, butter the pie plate with 2-1/2 tablespoons soft butter, then cover with toasted bread crumbs, pressing them firmly into the butter. Chill well in the freezer, fill with your favorite quiche filling recipe, and bake as directed

Re: Hairy Bikers Recipe

I'm sorry but I've had to remove that post. Their book is copyrighted material and posting it is not allowed legally without written permission and they could come at me about it.

I know I might seem a bit pedantic taking it off, but I really can't afford to get sued and, in fairness, it is their work in their book.  As an author myself I'd be a bit miffed to find copies of my work posted up on the net. It is a compliment but doesn't pay the bills! :)

If you would PM me with the publisher and book title I'll happily ask their permission which they may well grant for us to re-produce that recipe.

Check out our books - ideal presents

Oh sorry John, I never thought it would be a problem as I had credited them with it. I most certainly wouldn't want you to get sued either. I'd misunderstood from other recipes & posts the rules. Once again I apologise.
