Stock of stocks!
« on: May 20, 2011, 09:18 »
Hi there! Yesterday got delivered few boxes of tiny stock plugs. Isn't it too late for them,as I read they like when its cold and foggy. Its kinda hot over here atm.
Planted one box out,we'll see how do they feel.

What kind of stock is it? We've got night scented stock seedlings coming along in trays, not big enough to go out yet. I wouldn't expect them to be giving us a show until July or August.

Stock i.e. Matthiola genus: from what I can find on t'internet all flower through the summer. I think the cool weather bit you have read applies to the climate rather than the season.

If you can find out exactly which one (of many) that you have, then you can look up that exact one, but I think it is perfectly safe to plant them out still and it is not going to be too hot.

It was Lucky dip offer on Suttons web site, cant find it anymore.
From what i read stocks first to flower in early spring, its recommended to plant them out while its still cold. They like a bit of cold blast and then go flower like mad. My neighbors stocks were flowering before my daffodils last year. Were double and very nice scented.
But ofcourse I will plant them out anyway :) Thanks.
