i'm hoping that translates into twice the size foe the end product.

Some say not. It has been mentioned in a previous thread that larger ones are more prone to bolting.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

My experience last year with Autumn Planted Onions was that the stuff I bought loose from a Garden Centre was not a patch on stuff from D T Brown.
The same went for Early Potatoes and Runner Beans.
Sometimes you exactly what you pay for.

Yep my experiences as well, my DT Brown stuff has been very good, got my onions today, 3 lots of 250g each for £6.95, Bianco, Electric and Radar, last years were fab, so I stick to successes...

I'm not talking large national chain garden centres here, but a tried and trusted independent one where I can buy cheap and get quality without the exorbitant postal charges.

Their supplier for potatoes is JBA- good enough for me!

Plus postage, I take it!

Just had a look at their onion sets. I see they are selling 250g of "Centurion" for just under the price I can get a kilo for.

I got 50Kg for £92 (not all for me)
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.
