I hoping someone can enlighten me as to the error of my ways??  :blink:

This is my first year of growing Garlic, in fact my first year at my own backgarden allotment.

I regularly visit this site and look for tips on what to be doing and when......so when I took the opportunity today to see how the Garlic was doing I was quite disappointed with what I found.

As I had read on here, I waited untill the leaves went yellow, dug them out to dry.  They however seem to have a white/grey powder on them and when I squeeze them are pretty hollow.  I peeled a few back and they seem to have rotted!   Was this something I have done??  Thanks

I had a couple like that, I put it down to it just being too wet for them at some point.

I didn't think mine had white rot, which is a fungal disease commonly found on the roots or base plate of onions and also garlic.

I had a few do that even without too much water. Something along the way hits them and they're goners. Try again next year and perhaps, if possible, grow them in raised ridges so that the bulbs never sit in puddles, etc.

Sounds like this may be one to chalk up to experience. 

Will definately try again next year as we eat so much of it
