Newbie with questions

Hi I'm another newbie (although have been lurking for a while)
My friends call me a nutter for keeping hen's so after reading a few posts on here I feel quite at home already

I have had my girls since May (black rocks) and have a broody one, first question: is it usual for the comb to flop?

And now for stupid question
I will be looking after some bantams soon one being a cock (neighbors will kill me, lol) would it be able to fertilize my hen's? (If thats the right way of putting it) or will the size difference be a problem?

sorry for lack of photo's, I know it's law but i can't work out how to put them on.

Hi Sally

Welcome to the Mad House

Can't help you with the black rock comb question, someone will be able to help on that I'm sure.

As to your visiting man chuck, pretty sure he'll do the "do" with your ladies.
Do you want fertile eggs??

Tells you about photo's here :

you may need to wait a couple of weeks after he starts playing piggy back, before you get fertile eggs

Not quite sure why your pics didn't come up. Took everyone on the forum about 3 weeks to teach me to post pics. Oddly I can do it but don't really understand it so can't explain how to anyone else

   Me too

PS bit of cross thread talk. Feel a bit like a teenager too but not sure I like it really. Think I preferred late 20s. Teenagedom was a bit too much stress and not fitting in. Stresses different but the feeling much the same. Got through last time so will just hold my breath for a little while :?

Thanks, just having those Monday blues.  Much as I love my job and it brings me much joy and satisfaction sometimes working with people who couldn't care less gets me down. Sometimes really wish I could jack it all in and just breed ducks and grow veg  .
Know it is completely impractical dream and I actually would be heartboken to leave my vocation but sometimes the slackers make me wonder why I flog myself working 10-12 hour days for what feels like no recognition over the dross lot.
Just love being in the garden surrounded by the things I've supported and grown.

Anyway sorry for the self pitying strop but just needed to get it off my chest. Tomorrow something lovely will happen and I will be filled with enthusiasm again.

Awwww....Kate.............so sorry for you.  I agree work can sometimes be a right pain in a**....  I feel same way really short for staff...  Times ok at work now, got promo to much larger branch (dunno if good news!?!) where I'll have other running around doing my previous 1001 tasks and I just train, develop & coach ppl.  (just wander round cracking whip probably!)

I find coming home wandering round garden seeing what veggies are good to pick for dinner very relaxing and satisfying too!  Am looking forward to being chookie-keeper but had major set-back with hubby making coop.

Chin-up and I'm sure the many others on here will help the gloom go away!!!     :D
