Railway Sleepers
« on: June 02, 2008, 13:31 »
I live in the Bristol area and have obtained a greenhouse over the weekend.
This was on a raised concrete base, which is too much to do on my site, so was wondering about sitting the greenhouse on sleepers.

My question: Does anyone know where you can get cheap/free railway sleepers or does any one have any other suggestings.

Base needs to be approx 4-5 inches wide and about 6 - 12 inches deep.

Thanks
Thanks

If you can get some conrete blocks and loose lay them, preferably on a bed of sand or gravel so you can level them.
Then you can either use some timber on top of those to fix you greenhosue to or sit it straight on top and either drill/plug/screw into the blocks or stick some bricks, etc on top of the bottom flange to weigh it down.

Depends how windy your site is. Might need somethign pretty substantial to hold it down.

Maybe you could get some flags, they are often going begging on Freecycle, the only problem is, you need transport to get them. What about trying to get hold of some pallets, resting them on breezeblocks and filling in the gaps with wood from other pallets. Would that do????
Keep on trucking
