Bonfire ashes - Good or Bad ?

If it was ordinary wood then it's good stuff, but if there was plastics and 'rubbish' on the fire not so good.

Wood ashes are a good source of potash, great for tomatoes especially.

for best results sieve it to remove nails etc .. of if you have a large speaker magnet then drag this through the heap as you shovel it . dont do a numbnuts and throw the nails back in the pile just stick them in a carrier bag and dispose of nicly . i actually have a bonfire of my won most years i9 stack wood and other good burnabales up in ateepe stack spade fuls of soil up around it to make a mound and then having left a hole i set fire to it and close the little draught hole i made when i got the soil heaped up and then the flu is closed to cook the fire within . the remains are then raked over to the soil .. as john said its good for potash ,, that makes the green bit on plants if memoery serves
