Today we opened an egg from the silkies and there was a tiny bit of blood in the yolk, does any one know the answer to that.

Iv got 2 silkie chicks aswell they are 5 weeks old if i gave you a pic of them would you be able to sex them now.

They have stopped sneezing know !!

Thanks Catii

That's quite right Cati  NO HAY !!!!!   :!:

As well as giving breathing problems the hens may eat it.  If they do it may well tangle into a ball blocking their crop causing the food not to be able to go down (or up).

So STRAW only for their nesting box Cati :D

Hi WR1
Sometimes a little blood does get into the egg from a broken blood vessel somewhere in the hen's egg-making equipment. It does not look very nice. Just remove it before cooking the egg if you want to, but it will not hurt you. Meat contains blood and I eat that.

If they are safe from foxes there they will come to no harm.

You can put them in the coop if you want to while they are asleep. but use a red light if you need light to see what you are doing.

If I remember rightly you have checked for red mite in their coop.

So it may just be because it's hot now and they fancy a nice cool place to sleep  :D
