step by step building an incubator tutorial 1
« on: March 03, 2008, 12:30 »
ok this is a tutorial on building and incubator with what you have around

i am using a pet carrier as i have one here so other than a box here is what you need

1. a 60 watt light bulb
2. a light fitting
3. a dimmer switch
4 tin foil
5. a pot for water
optional extra fan and an old pc power unit

photos of the steps will be posted in this topic

the pet carrier

STEP 1 INSULATING THE TOP OF THE BOX
do this with your tin foil make sure you leave a hole at the back this is for a vent

STEP 2 INSTALL A FAN TO TOP

now place fan were you want it and drill 4 holes then with garden wire tie in place

STEP 3 FITTING THE LIGHT
now im using a 60 watt red bulb for this

all fitted

and here it is finished

I think it is great, though from what I have read keeping the temperature right is  absolutely critical and without a thermostat I think you will struggle?

I recently built one and needed a thermostat, luckily I was in B&Q and saw a soil warmer thermostat on clearance for about £12 (made by parasone) it has a 3A power take off so used this and put in mine.
Cheers,

Wayne.

Is it really that complicated -  :?

Surely a chook doesn't keep her eggs 47.2 all the time!! She must eat, drink and poo?

Can't you just shove your duck eggs under a broody hen?     Mine sat on a plastic lemon on the lawn for about 2 hours the other day!!!  8)

2 x daughters
3 x chickens
1 x bunny
6 x african snails  . . . . . and counting.

i dont have any hens    and as for temp you must not over heat the eggs so i have to know what the max temp this incubator is getting up to

or i run the risk of cooking the eggs
