The extremely smelly cheese we were given as a gift is proving a challenge.. it does taste good but the smell was oozing from the fridge and filling the house, despite it being triple wrapped. It is now on the back door step in a sealed plastic box. The smell is much less outside!!

Any ideas please, as to what we could do with it to make something delicious?

Funny you were asking about cheese.  I also have leftovers, but thankfully not smelly enough to warrant banishment from the house

I think this site must be sponsored by Wallace and Gromit, but it has some darn fine cheese recipes on it.  I thought the biscuits on this page sounded good and the dough is versatile.  You can make biscuits or tart cases  :)

Ooooohhh thanks for that link, some nice looking things on there!    ;) ;)

We suddenly rushed to the fridge a couple of hours ago, because for some reason we were starving...

Leftovers include some of this, which is just fabulous, and we don't know a thing about it, other than it came from a local farm shop a week or so before Christmas, and just looked good!

Huh...

So sorry, Mum, I tried another route, and got nowhere!

I suppose it's best to just Google 'Sussex Marble', and the cheese section will show it up!

These links are sent to try us, no doubt...

Roasted a chicken on Sunday and there was loads of meat left on it after we had dinner.  Stripped the carcass and made a chicken and mushroom pie for Tuesday's dinner.  Perfect comfort food in this cold weather and mum will use the bones for stock for soup.  Nothing wasted here this year.

The waste in my household will have people crying, i really need to learn how to utilize all my "wasted" food, i must throw away 30% if not more of what ive bought, and in current climate i need to save every penny i can!

I'm trying to reduce mine too- planning seems to be key (but boring) ie freezer left over mash for shepherd pies, if I'm having half a pumpkin (ie Thai Laska) one day, plan a meal a few days later with the rest of it (veg chilli)
I do write a weekly menu to shop by, but then life happens...someone's out, boyfriend appears etc.
At least you are aware

I found I needed to plan most meals rather than just shop - then I didn't have food I didn't need. There's a bit of give n take with the menus - but not much.

I agree with Mum, a bit of organisation saves waste, and lack of time seems to create more waste than anything, because people tend to go for the easiest option to get a meal on the table.
A few things that work for me are:-
Always throw stale bread into the food processor to make breadcrumbs, then bag and put in the freezer. They don't stick together, so you can use what is needed and put the rest back. Useful for topping gratins, etc.
Grate dry bits of cheese and freeze. Handy for loads of recipes and toppings.
Always cook more boiled potato than needed, then mash and freeze the remainder in portions large enough to top cottage pies.
Freeze leftover egg yolks, or egg whites in small containers. Mark the quantity on the lid. Use for meringues or in baking.
Double the quantities of casseroles and stews, then freeze in portions.
Use odds and ends of veg to make soup. If not needed immediately, freeze in portions.
Take a few minutes to make a job lot of crumble topping and freeze. Use to make a quick dessertwith fruit from the freezer or fruit past it's best.
As Mum says, though, the most important thing is to plan ahead.
