Slow growing peas
« on: June 09, 2014, 22:15 »
My peas have got to be about 8-10cm tall and seemed to have stopped growing, and my runners bean plants look quite yellow rather than bright green (like on the next plot over) - what am I doing wrong? Any ideas?
Thanks x

I don't think you're doing anything wrong, Snoozie, peas often sulk for a while before getting going, as beans do too!

Try a little Blood Fish and Bone scattered close by the roots, hoe it in or wait until it rains, and they'll feel a bit better, and so will you!

I'm in Cornwall too and my Rondo peas seem to have stopped growing at about 4inches and my runner beans look weak and yellow, same as yours.

My whole veg garden has a look similar to that of 2 summers ago when I gave up struggling, shut the gate and called it a day for that year. But I live in hope. :)

I also have a lot of trees that look very poorly. :(

My fruit bushes are looking fantastic (at least the ones I pruned properly last year).  Peas, beans and beetroot all very sad - but just started to perk up a little. I have for the first time had to use slug pellets.  Also, I've just resown rows of beans and peas hoping for a late crop where there were no-shows.

One crab apple tree that is 3 years old has gone really sad looking - brown leaves and really thin foliage.

Thanks for replies guys, not just my little peas looking bored with the allotment then?!  So a feed with blood, fish and bone would be good for both? Think our allotment shop sells these, so will pop down when its open on Saturday.  I'm still shiny new to all this, so really appreciate all your help x

Yes, pop some round all the plants - they'll love it!
