Hello am hoping for some advice...

Our chickens have been eating their own eggs for a few weeks now. We have tried (and failed) with the chilli egg remedy! Last night we put a thin curtain over the nesting area but this morning they have still eaten an egg.

Our chickens are much loved pets - so getting rid of them is not an option.

When I was a kid my free ranging chickens occasionally ate their own eggs but it was only ever a one off event. These two live in an Eglu - not sure if the lack of space makes a difference (they do get out and about but only when we specifically let them out as there are hideous over confident foxes who come right into the garden and up to the chickens in front of us)??

Any suggestions or recounting of experiences gratefully received....

I was going to sugest a roll-away nest box, but that won't fit in an Eglu.  

Are your girls egg shells nice and hard ?

How many hens do you have in the Eglu and run ?

What time of day do you collect them ?

Can you collect them as soon as they are laid ?

Have you tried swapping eggs for an artificial one ? (you can get them from a farm supplies shop).  They might then find out they cant break them.

Chuck some golf balls in the pen, you can also get some plastic specs that fit into the beak that stop them.
You need to make the area that they lay in as dark as possible.
