New strawberry plants
« on: November 12, 2013, 19:00 »
I have just had an e-mail to say my new fruit bushes have been dispatched along with 10 strawberry plants. I have my fruit cage ready and will be planting them out with root grow at the weekend. (Just got to try and keep them in a decent condition until then on my balcony!)

What should I do with my strawberry plants? Is it ok to plant them out in their final bed this weekend? I have some strawberries already there but I wanted a different variety to complement them.

I don't know if its the best time but I received 30 runners last week and planted them out on Sunday. I put them on raised ridges in my sandy soil so they stand less chance of rotting. I just have my fingers crossed they survive!!!!!

Where did you get the runners from?  And what price if you don't mind me asking.  I need to get some.

TIA

I got my 30 runners from blackmoors nurseries. 3 varieties with 10 of each for about £21

Ok, thanks I will put them out on  Sat as well. I bought them from Buckingham Nurseries - I was ordering quite a few fruit bushes and got a deal with the strawberries but cant remember what now. They are definitely 'plants' as opposed to 'runners' though.

Once I've sorted my plants out, I will have a few spare runners of Cambridge Favourite and Elsanta that anyone can have for free if they can collect. Probably will have about a dozen or so of each.
