Cucumbers!
« on: July 22, 2013, 20:09 »
Hi
We have some strange markings on our cucumber leaves. I've added a picture-can you tell me what's wrong? Also, some of our tomato plants nearest to the greenhouse glass are a bit yellow too!
Any advice most welcome!
Thanks
Wendy

That looks rather like mosaic virus.

RHS advice (but not the best indicative photo) here:

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Oh nightmare!  :( I think just about all our plants are affected!
I couldn't see on the info you sent-can it spread to different crops like toms?
Thank you for sending me  the link.

I agree that the RHS have not put up a very good indicative photo, the best one I can find is on another forum and it wouldn't be good protocol to link to it!

Google "cucumber mosaic virus" and look at images. You'll get one that's very close you yours.

Yes, sadly, other plants can get it.

Thanks DD, I googled it and you're right-the pics were exactly the same. I have a few plants at home that seem fine so does that mean we've got something in the greenhouse at the allotment or is it likely to be from aphids?

Just hoping it's not something we've done to bring this on!  :(

My leaves that are up against the glass are a bit like this - it looks like scroching as the rest of the plant is fine.

Since we updated the forum there's been a problem with the edit system - it seems to work ok if you edit within 30 minutes.
