Title: chicken shows
Post by: Mulberry1990 on July 20, 2010, 20:31
Just watching 'The private life of chickens' and there was a scene that looked something like a chicken show? Like crufts but for chickens I suppose.
Are these common? I'd love to go see all the different kinds of chickens available! Need to find some more breeds to add to the collection!

Yes, just like crufts for chickens! They are really interesting places actually, although I find a lot of 'chicken snobbery'. Must say this isn't everyone though you do find some really nice people who know their chucks and give you advice.

I went to the show/sales recently, they have them at York which is near you (ish). I went to melton spring rare breeds which was amazing, loads of chucks and then they were auctioned off, some daft money though!

there are shows happening all over the country, some of us met up last year for the National and the Federation shows as a few members from here were showing. A few of us from the east midlands are meeting up this weekend and going to Heckington in Lincolnshire as they have a nice chicken show amongst loads of other stuff. Be warned though you will see so many varieties at these shows that you will come away wanting loads more chickens

I'm on a limit of only being allowed 3 more chickens and 2 goats, so I guess I will have to choose carefully!

Where or how do you find out about the Chicken Show's in the country?   I would be willing to drive from my area so it doesn't have to be the south but can't say I would be interested in driving more then 4 hours either ... haha

Think I may take a trip to the Norfolk show on the 17th October and the National Poultry Show on the 20/21st November at Stoneleigh. A few of us met up there last year and had a lovely time. last year I also visited the Federation but apart from it being so close to Christmas I much prefered the national.

wow loads on that list Jen
How are you doing with showing this year?
Are you going to go to Stoneleigh in November again? I have been in touch with Dorinda (cochin) and she is coming down again with some birds to show so would be nice to have another meet up there  :D
