Title: Out Of Date Bitter Kits - March 04
Post by: punkrokka on August 15, 2009, 12:16
I've just found some (BBE Mar 04) kits of Tom Caxton Best Bitter lost in time inside some fermentation barrels......Tins haven't been opened, all packets are sealed etc so the tempatation is to brew up the 80 pints .............. what's the worst that can happen?

Suspect the worst is that it costs a small amount and you have to pour it down the sink. >:( >:(

What is in the tin is probably OK as long as no dents in the can. ???
Would guess that the packets have had it and you may have to purchase whatever they are again.

Think your post said Enfield (95% chance of being wrong) so there is a good homebrew shop just south of Hoddesdon which is within reach if you don't have a more local one.

Ignore Hoddesdon I see you are in Middlesex

Thanks.......The Steptoe in me couldn't resist trying one so I've brewed up an old and a new kit at the same time. The '04 tin was clean as a whistle inside and out and the gloop within was the same as the new. The old yeast packet wasn't dated but used new anyway, the only other sachet was a hop refinement mix so it's gone into the mix.

Everything seems ok so far but I'll hold the other '04 one back in case the hospital need to see exactly what I used !!
