Title: Chrysanthemum cuttings
Post by: rugbymad40 on March 27, 2009, 18:50
Hi Folks,
I managed to over winter a number of Chrysanthemums in the green house this year and they have now started to shoot very well.  Does anyone have any tips for collecting and culivating cuttings from the mother plant, as I am told that this is the best way to generate new plants for flowering this year.
Over to you guys for help please.
Best regards

When the shoots are about 2 to 3 inches tall slice them from the main plant as low down as you can. Next, trim the bottom 2 leaves back to the stem and cut just below the joint. When you have done that use rooting powder and dib them into a tray of compost.
Water them in and keep them inside until they root, which is about 3 weeks.
When rooted plant them into single 3 inch pots.
As soon as they are about 6 inches tall you can plant them out, you can still grow the parent plants on, and do the same each year , hope this helps
Tony
