Title: Ideas for strengthening new shed???
Post by: infowarrior on March 18, 2007, 11:24
I've just got my new 10x6 shed up last weekend.  The quality of it is not as good as I thought it would be and it's extremely windy up here at the minute. Any ideas for strengthening it would be appreciated.  When we put it up we done everything by the book exept getting it totally level but it's not that much off.  Timber frame for base secured with 4" metposts, shed fasteded to that with 6" coach screws. It just doesn't feel that sturdy, if I hold the base of the roof and try to move it about it sways from side to side quite easily.
      Any tips appreciated.

get some 4 x  8 ft fence posts and concrete them in down both sides to a depth just above the eaves  and then drill a hole 1/2 inch through each one about 4 inch from the top and run a cargo strap through and over the top of the shed  bolt it to the posts with 4 bolts and a few big washers .......... jiobs a good un

So basically its just a post on each side of the shed, 2 posts in all, and a strap going over linking the 2?  Maybe I'll give that a try. Was maybe thinking of something not involving mixing concrete though if there's anything else that could be done.

If the shed has an apex roof and its fastend down well put some strengh were the roof line meets inside. Using 9mm plywood cut to match the roof supports then screw in place this should stop the shed swaying, put one on each joint
Sorry my art works not very good hope this helps

no its a post at roughly all 4 corners and connect the opposite posts to its mate on the other side  with the lorry staps  the posts  will stop it rocking and the strap will hold it down .wroks in mallaca typhoons

We lined out garden shed with hardboard which strengtherns it.  It also helps to insulate and keep the frost out

Cheers, might try the fence post strap idea and the ply, make it super strong!  Gonna need it with the strength of this gale force wind at the minute.
