I was going through my strawberry bed yesterday and there were lots of runners! I only planted the bed up last autumn but and we got very few strawberries. I know it was first year but I did notice that the place where I put my bed get very little sun until about mid day. So I thought I would use some of the runners to make a new bed where I know the sun is on the ground early. So what I have done is pot up the runners into general compost and put them into a cold greenhouse so the get some roots going I was then planning on getting the area ready and planting them out. We get mild winters down here normally so I hoped the would take and grow well and maybe get a few strawberries next year and more there after. I should get a better crop from the original bed next year though... I hope :) !

It is an ideal time to transplant rooted strawberry runners, as the soil is still warm and damp, and they will make plenty of new roots ready for the Spring, plus a spell of cold weather should trigger bud formation

Great I have plenty of plants to pot up so after that only the ground to prep.
