Title: Creeping buttercup...
Post by: Growster... on June 24, 2018, 12:18
Why is it such a good year for this one?

We are plagued with it and have resorted to some serious zapper where we can!

I suppose the best bit is when the bindweed gets caught up with it and we can do the whole lot at the same time...

It's just one of those 'orrible things that doesn't mind dry soil. I've got that and Herb Robert everywhere but very little couch this year. I know it's only waiting for some rain, though..

It's everywhere, Mum!

The rasps are inundated, and sometimes it comes out with the root attached, but often doesn't!

The couch will be for the new tenants to deal with, but they're lovely couple, and have worked their socks off to make the old Patch very presentable!

I suspect the damp cloudy spring and resultant constantly damp soil is to its liking (particularly if you are on heavy clay like me). I am plagued with it, and spent many evenings and weekends in May clearing vast quantities of it from my plot, because the poor spring before then meant the soil was too soggy to work on. Creeping buttercup, bindweed and couch grass are the three invasive weeds I have to constantly keep under control.

It is one of our "beasts" as well, and yes, we have clay soil into the bargain. One tiny piece can spread like billy-oh I you let it and getting out that little nub in the middle isn't always easy
