Post by: madcat on January 10, 2018, 17:45
Wilcos have their onion sets in and now I have to make a choice.  So which do you prefer -
Sturon, Stugar or Turbo?

I personally grow turbo from sets had no problems quite good size  bulbs when lifted  the G/C  sells them loose so one can help themselves I like turbo but everyone to there own why not try a couple of varieties and see what does the best on your ground

to avoid any confusion - Stugar is aka Stuttgarter Onion Sets
Wilko Onion Sets Stugar 14/21 500g at wilko.com (http://www.wilko.com/onion+potato-seeds/wilko-onion-sets-stugar-1421-500g/invt/6481740)

Always gone with Sturon, never had any problems, will overwinter in garage until March/April as long as they are dried sufficiently. PS always bought from Wilko!

Popped in to our local small branch of Wilko, but they only had Sturon.  I have ordered Turbo online but to pick up from the shop at no charge.  £1.50 for 500g is a very good price.  I bought Turbo sets the first year I had an allotment and they were fantastic.  I haven't managed to get them since, so I am pleased Wilko has them at such a good price.

I'm still waiting for Santero to be available as sets. Has anyone got theirs yet?
