One of our new pullets layed her first egg yesterday and in the right place.
We have one coop for the big girls and a temporary coop for the two pullets. The temp. coop has no nesting box and the only nests are in the other coop. She had been going into the main coop in the daytime and spending quite a lot of time scratching around in there. I suspected that she was ready to lay, due to her being so noisy and agitated. They're not allowed into the main coop at night (so far) because one of the others stands guard and refuses to let them in. I will give it another week or so and if it's not sorted by then I'll have to intervene.
But what a clever girl. There wasn't even an egg there already to show her the way.
They are amazing little creatures.
