Hi, when cleaning out my girls today I found a few clumps of red mite, they have now been sprayed and powder put down, but is there any way of getting rid of the horrible things completely.

Napalm might do it. :)

The trouble is the little devils are very good at hiding and you only need to miss a few for a colony to start again.
You need to spray and dust regularly just to be safe.

yep repeat the spraying on a frequent basis until you are sure they have gone completely. Well done on spotting it early, nasty little things  >:(
Staffies are softer than you think.

The only thing I found really got rid of them was diatom (I mix with water to make a paste and paint the inside of the coop - also use in dust form to treat the girls). Also vaseline at the ends of the perches and in any cracks works well as it smothers the mites. As 8doubles said they're very good at hiding so its just making sure you keep treating at least once a week and get in all the cracks and crevices.

Well if the red mite are out and about summer must be on its way!
