Fresh Asparagus :-)
« on: November 16, 2015, 17:59 »
Just been up the lotta and noticed a few new spears popping through. Didn't think they'd be that good, but actually really nice, tender and sweet. They didn't get back home  :D Anyone else had a bonus harvest?

I have a few coming through too, is that usual? I didn't cut mine because the plants are only in their second year, but I didn't know that they grew as late as this.

There was an item on Countryfile about growing Asparagus for the autumn, they put a poly tunnel over them to get them growing early in the season to put plenty of energy into the roots and them cut them to the ground in August/sept when they then throw up a crop of spears.

I think mine threw up some spears because of the continuing mild weather.
