Buying chickens in Leciestershire
« on: April 03, 2007, 09:02 »
Hi Folks!
We're new to chickens and wondered if anyone had any advice on where to buy good layers in Leicestershire.  The coop and run are nearly finished and the kids are getting very excited

Or find a local poultry/farmers market.  Usually get them at good prices.  Go out of school holidays to avoid inflated 'pet' prices if you do.  Can usually also size up some other breeds too to see if you like em.  Good fun bidding.

They lay approx 320 eggs a year, they are the plain brown variety, popular with battery farming because of the number of eggs they lay.  and very friendly, they follow my kids around and dont mind being picked up at all.  They do not go broody, I am picking up some ex-battery hens at the weekend that are 18 months old, which are being rescued from a battery farm in Brighton.  if you would like some FOC let me know as I see you are from leicester and i will get you some
