Is this unusual????
« on: March 27, 2007, 21:15 »
:? I have 4, 11 month old geese, at least 1 of which is a male, (I know this because I thought he was trying to drown another, and then the penny dropped,) and they have made two nests between them.
The first is in the open and gets wet if it rains, the other is under cover.

I have had 58,, yes, fifty eight eggs between both nests. I think they are still laying too.

This means that if I have three females, they might lay 20ish eggs each.
They are sitting on the nests at odd times and I am worried that thier instincts are not complete when it comes to nesting and are not properly incubating the eggs.
I hope that anyone can help but I'll bet Muntjac will know something.
I read his advice given in awe, what a wealth of knowledge. We're lucky to have him!!!
Q.What is the definition of a smallholder?
A. A man, outstanding in his field.

thanks for the thoughts but some others on here know just as much if not more than me ....but here goes take em all up and bin em ....... now take the hens  and let each of them them lay a new nest inside a pen .the drake will have given them plenty of semen to last 20 days or so .this will give you a decent chance of knowing what is going on.my best bet is that they are all juvenile and trying to do to much between them and its all going pear shaped . start again with them penned in with food and water  and your luck may well improve ,, at a last resort take the eggs and slip 3 under a bantam no more .or broody hen .if you have an incubator that may be another way of helping
still alive /............
