Hatching eggs, anyone?
« on: February 27, 2007, 21:39 »
Hello.  Just out of interest, anyone got any eggs in their incubators or under a broody?

I have 14 in my incubator all good - a combination of mixed large fowl, mixed banties and some light sussex.  2 weeks in, not long left, can't wait.  Have another 12 in storage (hopefully might keep) for when that lot hatch - fingers crossed!  Cost me £4 the lot.

Just searched google for a picture of this variety with no luck. You don't happen to have a picture Little Miss Muffett do you? :) Brahmas are my absolute favourite chicken breed.

My first incubator full of mixed fowl have just started hatching today.  Put another 34 into my new incubator (tonigh) which also arrived today.  Will let you all know the outcome.

Ducks in a few months and possibly some geese!

I doubt many will be good now - been in storage for a while.  Hatch rates low before now.  Have a few places to put them, don't worry

OK, despite storing my eggs for almost a month, I've had 12 hatch so far today and 6 more pipping.  Mostly araucanas with a few cream legbars, light sussex and odds 'n' ends for good measure.

My flock is done for the year now.  On to the ducks now...

Happy hatching everyone!

one of my banties went broody a few weeks ago so I put 4 sebright eggs under her.  went back next day and she had left them to go cold :(  she was sitting on everything until then.  I don't think integrating the aseel at the same time did it any favours!  all sebright eggs turned out clear in the end anyway, so it didn't matter as it happens.  will be more cautious next time and move her out of main shed if using her to hatch eggs.
