Sadly our 4 Light Sussex and 2 Silkie have been taken by a  fox :( We thought they were secure but obviously not and the fox got in and took them all.

We have got some wire meshing over the top but can any one give me a idea of what i can put in stead because he has ruined the meshing .

But hope they are enjoying in chookheaven .

From Catii
What came first the chicken or the egg ???

Chicken wire should not be called chicken wire

It was originally designed to put over long straw thatched roofs to stop the birds pulling it apart and nesting in it :!:

No thatched roof was ever in danger from foxes

Sorry Catii

What I meant to say was:

Only use weldmesh for a chicken run NEVER chicken wire as foxes can bite through it !

Really sorry to here about your girls. Think a couple of us have been caught out by underestimating the risk predators present. Sure people here will be able to offer loads of good advice.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Sorry to hear about your Light Sussex and silkies,

I have both these breeds and would be more than gutted if anything happen to them,

Thanks for the advice on chicken wire Auntie, I have a small run made with this stuff thankfully it’s kept in the main pen,
