Post by: muckyboots on January 08, 2019, 19:16
Hi happy new year to you all, can anyone tell me if I heard correctly that the government want councils to give free compost bins.I have had a quick look on our council site (I live in Staffordshire) and got redirected to a supplier who sells them and still cost £80 +for a good sized one.I have 2 home made ones  which I turn over, but i'd like a rotating one as I'm starting to to feel my age now thank  for any info cheers.

Hi Micky boots. I don't think free compost bins are on the cards. Free food recycling bins is for municipal composting may be what you are thinking of. Many local authorities connect with suppliers to offer subsidised prices on plastic compost bins. My LA does this but I can buy a  bigger bin cheaper from my allotment shop

Here in North Norfolk there is a scheme that gives free lectures/talks on composting and you get a free bin at the end of it.

Check out Norfolk Master Composters for more information.
