Last year I put mine in in march and they were ok but didn't grow t the size of bulb I was expecting them too.  Planted them all in November this year, time will tell if they do better.  They certainly have had a head start and the frosts I believe are supposed to be good for them too (I think).

Hi CT, welcome, I also will leave it to the expert, but mine went in in the Autumn.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Hello and welcome CT.

As long as your soil is friable you can put your garlic in now and it will start making roots, ready to shoot when Spring arrives.
You can wait until March, but as Crowndale has intimated, your finished bulbs will probably be smaller. Either way, you'll still get a crop. :D

or not. I'm not sure on this, but so I think, rightly or wrongly, that late planting(like March) as after frosty weather can contribute to no clove formation, you might just end up with tiny pickling onion like things.

The maistro is busy talking flowers, methinks.

Welcome carrot top
I didn’t put mine in until Spring last year and they did OK small but perfectly usable.

Hi CT and welcome!  BTW, usually everyone on here ends up with a shortened version of their names, whether they want it or not!!

WG started out as Whiskey Golf, Munty is Muntjac, Wellies is Wellingtons... the list goes on!

You'll like it here :)

Guess I am still Aidy    and welcome and yes without a doubt, Autumn, I believe they need a good cold spell to split, I sometimes put some in late in spring so they grow to be big cloves, dry them and replant them in Autumn so I get big bulbs the following year.

Edit: Actually thinking about it old long haired hippie type Munty calls me allsorts

As soon after September as you can.  Now-ish would be fine.  PM me if you have trouble finding seed.

Or look for garlic in the Veg section on the WYSIWYGGY link in my signature :D
