I find that our garage is far too damp to store any squashes, and it does get very cold at night.

The more even cool temperature in our spare bedroom seems to suit them better.

It is sad when your precious crop seems to be spoilt in this way, ghost. What a shame

Stuffed marrow tonight as a result. Butternut squash risotto tomorrow, and spaghetti squash bolognese on Thursday! The rest will have to wait for space in the freezers! Fortunately not all rotting (so far) but I expect the others will go the same way.

My quashes and a pumpkin are sat on my dining table my house is always between 15-18C

Ive only had 1 casualty a sweet dumpling that was a bit scratched from a chunk of cement I had been sitting it on the scratched part went mouldy

are your squashes still outside? the frost will be rotting them I have seen 100s of squashes and marrows rotting away on the ground this year at my site such a waste

thanks for all your advice, I think they were perhaps not fully ripe and I didn't wash them only wiped them down with a dry cloth. they were stored in the shed so that should've been ok. Next year I will try ripening them off in a sunny window (I am in the far north so late summer sunshine is rare) and washing them.
thank you

Having researched this, it seems that they store for about 3 months  and then you should freeze them. So the timing is about right as I harvested them in late September. Good thing is that all three things, marrows, butternut and spaghetti squashes are huge, so losing a bit at the top doesn't deprive us of much!
