The only things I've sown so far are destined for a heated greenhouse for their next stage and they are currently in the house to save greenhouse heating costs.

Plot-wise the next things to go in will be shallots, followed in a few weeks by onion sets. The ground is still too cold to contemplate any seed sowing.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Parsnips maybe if you're keen to sow something direct in the ground already, but the forecast is for it to turn very cold again..

If you have a greenhouse, wash it out, then sharpen and clean all your garden tools. Repair any leaky barrow tires, etc. Just don't seed anything yet.

In February's Gardener's World magazine there is an article on seed sowing and Monty says he starts his first spring sowings on the 15th February.  As this is a date that I will never forget, with it being my birthday, I have decided that if Monty does it, that's good enough for me!  Tomatoes, peppers, chillis and leeks are all now underway.
No matter how many plants I have in my garden, I can always find room for one more.

As I'm pressed for time I always start my sowings off at this time of year in a cold greenhouse and I've never had any problems!

Today I have been out and sown some summer cabbages, calabrese, tomatoes, onions and some butternut squashes (although even I know I've sown these too early but I'll take the chance!)

Good luck with whatever you decide to do M1ckz :)

There is no better show of antisipation than a man sowing seeds in a field.

At this time of year you could be finishing your Winter digging off, if you have not already done so. Compost heaps can be turned and Greenhouses cleaned.
Don't forget there is always that Trip to the Garden Centre you could go on!

I have started some onions off from seed in a heated propagator this afternoon.   They won't be going out into the ground until much later though.

Have also sown my broad beans into modules and put in the cold frame.   Too cold to plant in the autumn and overwinter successfully here and the mice tend to eat the seeds if I sow direct.  Will transplant them to the plot when they are about 3 inches high.
