I have a lovely book "Geoff Hamilton Gardeners' World Practical Gardening Course - The Complete Book of Gardening Techniques" - it's where I got the ideas to divide my lottie into fixed 4ft wide beds and to make water pipe cloches from.  

Watching him on telly probably got me into the gardening bug.

Geoff's certainly inspiring, isn't he. Found the cloche reference this afternoon; he made it from clear rigid pvc, outdoor glue and clear greenhouse tape for the fastening, and a brass drawer knob at the top for holding. It was about a foot square (30cm) and about that tall altogether. It's on Ornamental Kitchen Garden if anyone has the tape or book.
