Title: Storing savoy and red cabbages?
Post by: Potterer on September 09, 2023, 10:28
Hi. I bought seedlings of savoy and red cabbage this year at a local fete. They are now enormous and one has split already. I think I need to harvest before they all split.

Has anyone successfully stored cabbages for any time ( no room in fridge or freezer at all!) and if so, how did you do it please?

Loads of recipes around for pickled red cabbage, you just need vinegar and spices. Lovely with cold meat or steak.
I'm told you can make sauerkraut from any kind of cabbage, including savoy but I haven't tried it.

Could you "rent" space in a friend's freezer by putting two things in & only asking for one back? If so, cook red cabbage with onions, apples, cider vinegar & cinnamon. It freezes very well.
